All About Fillers: The Run Down
The way we use fillers today is with more restraint and more specificity, and this applies to everything from smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles as you’d expect, as well as shaping the jawline and chin and improving overall symmetry of the shape of the face.
The rationale behind using different types of fillers depends on our patients’ goals and the most effective way to achieve their desired results. Our main focus for use of fillers in our practice is on addressing hollows under the eyes and subtly lifting the cheeks to counteract the downward drift that comes on with age.
Fillers are also used for the lips to plump and restore volume, to fill the smile lines around the mouth and to fill in lines throughout the face.
We personally walk each patient through their options based on what they’re looking to work on, so the fillers we use depend on your personalized treatment approach.
In our office we use a range of name brand fillers, including: Juvederm (Voluma, Volbella, Vollure), Restylane (Refyne and Defyne), Radiesse and Belotero as well as PRP, micro- and nano-fat grafting and microinfusions as a smaller dose combo treatment.
Hyaluronic acid based fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero are soft tissue fillers similar to the hyaluronic acid naturally found in our bodies and skin and tend to last around 12 months.
PRP is obtained in the office using our patient’s blood by separating out the plasma into an injectable serum packed with growth factors and proteins. This treatment stimulates collagen production due to the growth factors and will start to show noticeable volumizing effects several weeks after treatment.
Similarly, nanofat is a injection that is based off a similar concept to PRP, but instead of plasma, uses a patient’s own growth factors in their fat cells. This is also a one-day in office treatment where we remove a small amount of fat cells, transform them into a serum and inject them into the face as a volume boosting filler. This procedure is also great at treating under eye hollows.
